My 2 Wheeled Life

Sunday Ride

Filed under: Metropolitan, Ruckus, Scooters, Weather — wRitErsbLock March 30, 2008 @ 11:39 am

We were both itching to ride our scooters today, having not been on them since we retrieved the Element on Wednesday. We had a lovely ride. We rode around Baldwin park; truly a beautiful community.

We rode around Lake Baldwin.

Baldwin Park now ends at my old back yard. This cemetery was what my bathroom window overlooked when I had my little studio apartment nine years ago. My roommate and I (when we took over a two bedroom apartment) used to walk our duck through the cemetery to the park.

It was a gorgeous day, a perfect day for a ride.

We stopped for a smoothie and walked around the town center at Baldwin Park. Saw someone I worked with back in 2000, who now owns a specialty shop in Baldwin Park (I’ve been meaning to drop in and say hello when I saw the store sign a year or two ago, as I remember that was the name of her dream shop).

Hubby saw a happy otter swimming in one of the ponds we passed, but I missed it.

Two miles from home, it started to rain. I didn’t mind getting wet, but I could not see with all the water on my lenses. And the rain hitting my face at 35mph was sometimes painful.

All in all, it was a really great ride and I’m so glad we went.

I told my husband we should get two more scooters so that when friends are over, they can join us for a lovely ride.

Bump

Taken on Mills at South Street.

No shit there’s a bump! The entire stretch of Mills from Robinson to South street is a big, fucking bump. With huge pot holes and divots. It is not fit for two wheeled driving. And it’s brand new; newly bricked within the past eighteen months.

Metropolitan, Ruckus, and Element. A happy Honda family. Even more-so when MIL’s Civic is in the driveway.

don’t tell my husband

I didn’t really enjoy the ride home today. I am just too tired.

You have to be super alert when you’re on two wheels. That’s hard to do when you’re tired. And it’s more like work when you’re tired.

I feel like skipping dinner and just going to bed.

It’s going to be cold again tomorrow. I am dreading riding to work in the cold again. This morning was not enjoyable. And that’s probably one of the reasons I am so tired now.

soon we will have our car back

Just because we will have the car back does not mean we will cease riding our scooters. We’ll still ride to work at least once a week and plan weekend road trips. We love riding our scooters.

I must have been a sight!

I wore jeans and a warm sweater.

I put track pants over the jeans.

I put a zipper fleece over the sweater.

I put a zipper wind breaker jacket over the fleece over the sweater.

Gloves were added to the ensemble.

I looked like the Stay-puff Marshmallow Man!

It was a long, cold, super cold ride.

forty-four degrees

It is forty-four degrees outside. I do not want to ride in that kind of cold. It’s a long, long thirteen miles when it’s cold.

evening commute: that was a great ride!

What a great ride! It was chilly; I had on my sweater, a fleece jacket over that, and my wind breaker jacket over that. After three miles, I stopped and added gloves to my ensemble. We stopped at a cycle store to check out their helmets, gloves, and other protective outer wear. That altered our route home, and made it after rush hour. The ride home was fabulous! I had such an enjoyable ride. My legs were starting to get numb from the cold wind, but other than that, I was well bundled and had a really great ride.

Just thought you’d want to know!

I love my scooter.

it’s chilly outside

Oh my goodness. It’s cold out there. I just went out to show off my cute little scooter to a business associate. I’m wearing a light sweater, and I was shivering out there. Where is this cold weather coming from? It’s the end of March in Orlando. Surely we should be in the mid-eighties already.

I’m so glad my husband suggested I wear a sweater today instead of the cute white blouse I originally put on.

wind breaker

I found a wind breaker jacket in the back of my closet. What a great find. Sure, it’s ugly and I hate it, but it keeps the wind from attacking my skin on cold mornings like today. When I rode past the bank, the display read fifty-eight degrees. And while I love cold weather, it’s one thing to have cold weather and only be outside it in; it’s quite another thing to be riding a scooter in the cold. It is so cold when driving in the cold. The wind breaker helps a lot. Now we just need to find one for my husband.

I’m wearing the ugly jacket in the picture in the previous post. It’s ugly, but I’m thankful to have it. (It’s part of an ugly track suit someone gave me years ago that I never use, but kept just in case.)
